Osteoporosis
is a disease that occurs in the body when the body no longer
is able to form new bones or when it no longer is able to
replenish the existing bones. It’s vital that you have
enough phosphate and calcium in your diet, both of which are
minerals that are needed for healthy bones. Calcium is needed
for proper bone production, as well as for maintaining a healthy
brain and heart. As we age our bodies become less able to
absorb calcium and this calcium loss results in bones that
are weak and easily break.
One of the major causes of
Osteoporosis
is when the body is missing essential hormones, such as estrogen
and androgen. Menopause is when many women first start to
experience symptoms of Osteoporosis, and as they age the condition
worsens. Another factor that can lead to Osteoporosis is when
you use large amounts of corticosteroids. Still other causes
of Osteoporosis include some types of genetic disorders, thyroid
problems, the use for some types of medication, and when the
muscles of the body aren’t used enough. More women than
men are at risk for getting Osteoporosis and thin women with
a slight body build are more at risk than larger women.
There are several different methods of treatment that are
available for Osteoporosis. The most popular method, and the
one with the most success, is hormone replacement therapy
(HRT). This type of treatment is beneficial for Osteoporosis
because it replaces the estrogen, and progesterone, that a
woman has lost. HRT brings the hormone levels of a woman’s
body as close to normal as possible so that menopausal symptoms
are alleviated, including the prevention of Osteoporosis.
Taking HRT for Osteoporosis may have some side effects, such
as bloating, weight gain, retention of fluids, headaches,
and vaginal bleeding. There are other treatments for Osteoporosis
that have seen some success but at this time HRT is the most
preferred method to use for the prevention and cure of Osteoporosis.
