Hodgkins
Lymphoma is known as cancer that affects the lymphatic system
of the body. The short name for Hodgkins Lymphoma is simply
“lymphoma”. Not all cases of Hodgkins Lymphoma
are cancerous. The two most common types of lymphoma are Hodgkins
Lymphoma and what is known as non- Hodgkins Lymphoma. The
way that doctors can tell the difference between these two
lymphomas is by taking a look at the lymph cells under the
detection of a microscope. Once it is determined which type
of Hodgkins Lymphoma is present the doctor will have to decide
on a different course of treatment.
Hodgkins Lymphoma is a cancer, and like most other types
of cancer, it is quite unnoticeable in the early stages. One
of the first symptoms of Hodgkins Lymphoma is when the patient
notices a swelling of the lymph nodes in the pit of the arm,
neck, or in the groin area. This swelling is painless although
it may cause a bit of an aching feeling in some patients.
As Hodgkins Lymphoma progresses the patient may experience
some other symptoms that include (1) loss of energy, (2) weight
loss, (3) sweating at night, (4) an itching feeling on various
parts of the body, and (5) a high body temperature. Once Hodgkins
Lymphoma has been diagnosed there are several different types
of treatment available but the two most common treatments
are chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Many times these two treatment
methods are used in a combination to cure the patient of Hodgkins
Lymphoma. This cancer is highly treatable and curable even
in the late stages of the cancer. This is why it’s important
to be diagnosed as quickly as possible. The treatments for
Hodgkins Lymphoma can last anywhere from several weeks to
several months depending on how the patient reacts to treatment
and how latent the Hodgkins Lymphoma has spread.
