Hair Loss

Hair loss happens to each and every person to a certain degree, approximately 90% of the hair on a normal scalp is in a growing phase that can last a number of years before it reaches a ‘resting’ period, falling out after two or three months pass. That’s why it’s a normal part of this cycle to find so many hairs in the shower every day!

Hair loss can also be a symptom of thyroid gland disease, and either under-active or overactive thyroids can make the hair fall out at a more rapid rate. Male and female hormones (called androgens and estrogens) can also suffer an imbalance with hair loss being a resulting side effect. Often if the imbalance is treated correctly, the hair loss will subside. Pregnancy can cause a similar hormonal reaction in women, and many new mothers experience hair loss within three months following childbirth. When their bodies return to a normal, pre-pregnancy state, hormones usually balance themselves and the typical cycle of hair growth begins anew.

Unfortunately, some hair loss can be attributed to serious illnesses or diseases like cancer, or the more serious types of lupus and diabetes. The stress of sickness on the body, or the natural recuperation process after a major surgery can produce an excessive amount of hair loss in both men and women who’ve recently been in the hospital. Taking chemotherapy medications, antidepressants, birth control or blood thinners can sometimes also lead to hair loss.

The fortunate thing is excessive hair loss is usually temporary, or can be lessened with alternative forms of medication. Or for situations of common baldness, not attributed to disease or prescription medications, a non-prescription drug like the brand name ‘Rogaine’ can be used by men and women through scalp applications.

If hair loss proves to be ongoing, there could be a hair loss product or implant, a hair loss remedy or a hair loss solution that can be investigated to successfully treat the condition. Or perhaps a reputable salon or barber can design a wig, hairpiece, hairstyle or hair weave to give you back that sexy head of hair that make your hair loss a distant memory!
